Charles S. Haughey, Jr.


Charles S. Haughey, Jr. is a partner in the San Diego office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Products Liability Practice. Mr. Haughey has over 35 years experience, specializing in the defense of civil claims.

He handles the following types of matters:

  • Product liability defense, including claims involving cars and tires, machinery, trenchers, intraocular lenses, and drain cleaners
  • Construction law, including construction defect claims representing design professionals, subcontractors, general contractors and developers in litigation, mediation and trial
  • Professional liability defense, including representation of architects, engineers, lawyers, accountants, appraisers, real estate brokers and agents, insurance brokers and agents, and home inspectors
  • Environmental litigation, including defense of claims involving mold, and toxic torts
  • Defense of construction site accident claims
  • Personal injury and premises liability defense, including claims against school districts, grocery stores, restaurants and hotels
  • Commercial, real estate, banking and general business litigation

  • Mr. Haughey has represented design professionals, developers and general and subcontractors in litigation, mediation and trial of multi-million-dollar construction claims, and has handled earthquake subrogation claims arising out of the Northridge earthquake
  • Mr. Haughey secured a defense verdict in a five-month wrongful death trial
  • Several successful appeals, including published opinions in Sweat v. Hollister (1995) 37 Cal.App.4th 603 [upholding summary judgment for a broker on the grounds of adequate disclosure], and Edmunds v. Superior Court (1994) 24 Cal.App.4th 221 [upholding dismissal against an out-of-state attorney based on lack of jurisdiction]
  • Mediation, arbitration, and trial of product liability claims against manufacturers, distributors, sellers and rental companies
  • Mediation, arbitration and trial of professional liability claims against architects, engineers, accountants, attorneys, real estate brokers and agents, insurance brokers and agents, home inspectors, auctioneers and appraisers
