Shelly Hall is a partner in the Chicago office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. Shelly has over 15 years of legal experience in government, private practice, and in-house and over 5 years teaching in higher education. In government, she was a Law Clerk at both the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. In private practice, Shelly handled complex insurance issues and corporate matters for businesses. In-house, Shelly served as Claim Counsel handling cyber and claims against businesses and as a Product Leader as part of a Chief Underwriting Officer team.
In the data privacy context, Shelly advises companies as they anticipate cybersecurity threats, including by providing incident response plans and facilitating tabletop exercises, and represents them as they address data security incidents and related third-party civil litigation. She assists companies in complying with the requirements of state data breach notification statutes as well as various federal regulations and statutes. She also facilitates forensic investigations and the provision of credit monitoring and identity restoration services to individuals whose information is impacted in data security incidents. Shelly's background as a leader and professor allows her to develop and deliver real-world training on data privacy and cybersecurity issues. Her handling of complex insurance matters and cybersecurity claims provides her with unique insights into liabilities that emanate from data security incidents.
Before joining Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, Shelly was working as a professor, instructor, and subject matter expert at the collegiate, graduate, and law school levels. She continues to serve as faculty at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois teaching Business, Law & Ethics.
