Leah Dugan is an associate in the Cleveland office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Medical Malpractice and Transportation Practices. She focuses the majority of her practice on transportation and trucking, however also handles general liability, medical malpractice, and corporate matters. She has defended clients in municipal and state court, and successfully argued a case before Ohio's Fifth District Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Leah worked at a law firm in Wheeling, WV participating in large scale document review projects, and as a research assistant with the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, assisting in collecting data for a project regarding patient's opinions on the biobanking of removed tissue.
Leah was part of the joint degree program at the University of Pittsburgh, concurrently earning her J.D. and M.A. in Bioethics. While in law school, she participated in the Health Law Clinical program, where she represented indigent adults in healthcare matters, including obtaining guardianships and appeals for Social Security Disability benefits. She presented and won multiple cases before Administrative Law Judges and in Pennsylvania state court.
As part of the bioethics program, Leah had the opportunity to shadow a number of different types of medical professionals in their practices, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals. She wrote her master's thesis on Reporting Requirements and the New York SAFE Act of 2013, which focused on a new reporting requirement for mental health professionals, comparing it to other existing reporting requirements in other contexts.
Leah received her undergraduate degree in History, with a specialization in the History of Science, from the University of Chicago.
