Venessa Simpson Drake


Venessa Simpson is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Healthcare Practice. She represents healthcare institutions, healthcare systems, and healthcare practitioners in lawsuits and investigations, including complex civil litigation and binding arbitration.

Ms. Simpson’s extensive litigation experience includes defending high-exposure cases in all phases of litigation, including fact investigation, discovery and deposition, law and motion. In addition, during her law school career, Ms. Simpson has gained a wide range of legal experience through her work at the Children’s Law Center of California, a civil and criminal defense firm in Beverly Hills, and the California Attorney General’s Office, Business and Tax Section. She received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards (highest grade in the course) in Secured Transactions, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Bankruptcy.

Ms. Simpson was an active member of the Southwestern Law Review, and her article “What’s Going on Hair? Untangling Societal Misconceptions that Stop Braids, Twists, and Dreads from Receiving Deserved Title VII Protection” was published in the Southwestern Law Review, Vol. 47, No. 1. Additionally, Ms. Simpson has received multiple awards and honors including second place in the Western Regionals of the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, receipt of a substantial scholarship from the Black Women Lawyers Foundation, and receipt of the JAG Excellence in Leadership Award.

Prior to working at Lewis Brisbois, Venessa was also selected to participate in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Fellowship in 2017.
