Anna Gourgiotopoulou

Partner

Anna Gourgiotopoulou is a partner in the San Francisco office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability and Marine & Energy practice groups.

Anna brings years of experience in high-stakes transportation, personal injury, and maritime defense work across the West Coast, and has been frequently called upon to practice pro hac vice in jurisdictions outside California in admiralty cases. She has defended domestic and international insurers, reinsurers, vessel owners, mom and pop businesses, and Fortune 500 companies in federal and state litigation, and has successfully tried multiple jury cases to verdict. She has also recovered millions of dollars for her clients in trucking and marine subrogation cases. In addition to her aggressive litigation practice, Anna has served as coverage counsel to both primary and excess insurers in the London and domestic markets.

Anna currently oversees the trial, arbitration, and litigation docket of a public transportation technology company in Northern California. In recent representative matters, Anna first chaired a jury trial in an admitted liability motor vehicle injury case involving a seatbelt defense, with alleged damages in excess of $30 million for loss of earning capacity. After just one day of deliberations, the jury unanimously sided with the defense in rejecting the multimillion dollar earning capacity claim, and awarded plaintiff a trivial fraction of the original demand.

Before joining Lewis Brisbois, Anna served as transportation and maritime counsel for an international law firm.

Anna is originally from Greece, where she was born and raised. Prior to moving her practice to the United States, she represented corporate clients in civil and white-collar litigation in Athens, where she remains an engaged member of the legal/maritime community. She is fluent in French and her native Greek, and holds a Goethe-Zertifikat B1 in German.

When not on legal duty, Anna is an avid SCUBA and free diver, and enjoys the occasional good book if circumstances do not call for adventure. At age nine, she wrote a children’s story about marine life, which is still featured in bookstores across Greece.

She is involved in numerous trade and professional organizations, and recently served a 2-year term as Vice President of the San Francisco Marine Claims Association.
