Matthew S. AhKao is an associate in the Newark office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Products Liability and General Liability Practices.

Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Matt gained extensive courtroom litigation experience as an Assistant Prosecutor in Hunterdon County. There, he prosecuted hundreds of indictable cases to conviction and tried a number of cases to verdict. He has substantial experience in handling all phases of litigation, including negotiating complex plea agreements to motion practice. In addition to being an experienced courtroom advocate, Matt has successfully briefed an opposition to a petition for writ of certiorari filed in the United States Supreme Court.

Matt clerked for Judge Frank Covello, J.S.C. in the Essex County and Passaic County Vicinages of the New Jersey Superior Court. As a law clerk, he managed the judge’s motion calendar and was responsible for conducting legal research and drafting written decisions for summary judgment and discovery motions in various areas of civil law. During his clerkship, Matt also became certified as a New Jersey mediator and conducted mediation conferences between litigants to facilitate settlement.

During law school, Matt interned at the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, and was a spring law clerk for Judge Patty Shwartz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
