Healthcare, Behavioral Health, and Data Privacy Associate Attorney - Portland

The national law firm of Lewis Brisbois seeks associates with 2-6 years of experience to join its growing Portland office. Our office is friendly, entrepreneurial, and proud of the service we provide to clients. Current available practice groups include healthcare, behavioral health, and data privacy. This position would provide opportunity for professional growth and the chance to work with outstanding lawyers who care about mentoring and helping associates develop their skills.

1. Research & Writing 

Researching and analyzing the law on complex issues and writing a brief for 

submission to a court, client, arbitrator, mediator, administrative or public entity or agency. 

Synthesizing legal research and analysis into a coherent written memorandum or brief for submission to a client, arbitrator, mediator, administrative or public entity or agency. 

Ability to draft letters, memorandum, agreements and other written work product as required to communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel and other entities and legal professionals. 

2. Legal Analysis Ability to analyze legal issues, evaluate and present recommended strategy to clients. 

(level of analysis required increases with years in practice) 

Analyzing, accessing and summarizing complicated legal documents, including contracts, and suggesting alterations to those documents. 

Anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the law firm or for a client, and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk. 

Performing due diligence in legal matters concerning contracts, agreements, and mergers and acquisitions, depending on area of practice.. 

Ability to anticipate and react to changing dynamics of a case, need to formulate long term and short term ranges regarding case strategy. 

3. Oral Presentation 

Ability to present legal options and argue position in person or electronically by means of electronic devices such as telephones, cell phones, video conferencing etc., (at court or in other professional settings). 

Negotiating with outside parties on contractual issues and legal disputes, including but not limited to settlement conferences and mediations.. 

Appearing in a court of law, arbitration or other judicial tribunal on behalf of the Firm’s clients, and presenting well-reasoned arguments to the judicial body. 

4. Travel 

Ability to travel on firm and client business ability to attend meetings with clients in their place of business., ability to attend meetings with potential clients out of the office to produce business and to travel to and from court and other legal forums ,whether these locations are in or out of state or in or out of the country. 

5. Client Relations

Ability to service clients effectively and to maintain and develop business
