Joshua Hecker is a partner at Lewis Brisbois’ New York office, specializing in Data Privacy & Cybersecurity with extensive litigation experience. After honing his communication, negotiation and analytical skills through years of litigation experience in New York, Joshua now takes a risk-based approach in assisting and navigating clients through the digital forensics and incident response process following a cybersecurity incident. Joshua provides legal counsel on state and federal data breach notification requirements; as well as information security and data privacy governance and policy. Incident response is a stressful time for clients, and Joshua’s experience in developing and contributing to a calm environment during a time-sensitive situation such as a cyberattack is an immeasurable asset.

Joshua’s data breach experience has also expanded his knowledge into preventive security measures, allowing him to advise clients on privacy program management, frameworks and operations. Joshua understands that every client’s needs are unique and require an iterative cybersecurity program life-cycle that adapts to the changing needs of the client and the current environment in which the client operates.

Joshua is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and holds CIPP/US/E and CIPM certifications. He has also demonstrated fundamental technical knowledge by earning a Security+ certificate from CompTia, and is Certified in Cybersecurity through ISC2.

Joshua is a graduate of Indiana University School of Law, now the Mauer School of Law, where he earned his J.D. cum laude. In his free time, he enjoys tinkering with computer hardware, coding, CTF problems, reading science fiction, running, and jiu jitsu.
